Essay
There is not much knowledge about Joos de Momper’s life. He obviousely was member of one of the grand painter’s-families in Antwerp. At the age of 17, in 1581, he became a member of the Sanct Lucas Guild as a Master. Later researches were able to proof that he travelled to Italy, which was not certain before.
Joos de Momper is one of the most interesting Neterlands painters in the period of development from manierism to naturalism in landscape-painting.
